Yakima Valley Cab Franc Tasting
"Washington wines are still a bit of a hidden treasure," Keith, our wine guy, confided. "I finally convinced the owner to bring in a few bottles, but they haven't been selling as well as expected." Intrigued, we said sure, and sure enough, high up on the shelf, we found a modest collection of Washington wines. Last weekend, we were back after trying Two Mountains' Hidden Horse Red Blend. This time we left with another Two Mountain gem, the 2020 Cab Reserve, and a Cab Franc from Sheridan Vineyard.
Two Mountain - 2020 Cab Reserve This bottle truly impressed, especially considering its price point. The right tannins make a smooth entrance, hitting at the end of a long, satisfying finish. On the palate, we discovered notes of blackberry, cherry, vanilla, oak, and a delightful minerality. It's a medium-bodied wine with a smooth mouthfeel and a nice dry finish that lingers. This Cab Franc keeps getting better as it opens up. It's a lovely find, and we're already looking forward to trying the 2019 vintage.

Sheridan Vineyard - Boss Black As the wine producer aptly puts it, "When they taste my wine, I want them to enjoy it." Sheridan Vineyard's Boss Black offers a unique experience – it's light on the tongue with an astringent quality and a blend of berries, notably black raspberry. This 2018 Cab Franc from the US/Washington/Yakima Valley region delivers tannins and a long-lasting finish that's sure to please.
